Grill, Grill and more Grill...

Some of you know I am in the midst of a major kitchen renovation.  Gutted to be precise.  For that past two weeks I've had nothing in the kitchen but the fridge; no water, stove or even a prep surface.  As a result the grill and the smoker have been working overtime.  However, I get bored with the usual grilled foods so I had to try my hand at something a bit different.  Breakfast.  Now I don't eat breakfast.  Espresso with some foamed milk is more than enough for me to start my day but it seemed like a challenge.

What says breakfast more than BACON??  I got myself some pork side belly and cured it with a mix of hawaiian sea salt, pepper, garlic and maple syrup for 5 days in the fridge, rinsed and then introduced it to the smoker for a couple of hours with applewood.  Now my smoker has lost the ability to get hot so it was a cold smoke - OK by me.

But now I have to cook the bacon right?  When I asked hubs this morning, if he wanted to try my bacon he jokingly said "only if it comes with eggs, over easy…oh and toast…oh and grilled tomatoes too", while he was kidding, he should know better than to challenge MOI!

So off I go to the only surface around here that gets hot; the grill!

Bacon first (oh and I got that bacon press for my birthday last week so I had to get it broken in!)

Melt some butter for the eggs while the buttered bread is toasting along with the tomatoes. (oh and all that white crap on the deck is from the destruction of all things kitchen related, just inside the door from here)

 Add eggs….

Don't forget to season well - just because you're camping at home doesn't mean you can skip the basics!

Keep your eye on the tomatoes, we still have to serve everything together!

Plate, serve and try to find a dust free place to consume!  Enjoy.  We did, and by the time the kitchen is finished I'll be able to produce 5 star meals all on the grill….or one can hope!
